Urban design solutions aim to promote successful coexistence and social interaction of people from different age groups and economic backgrounds, in order to enable development of vibrant, resilient and safer community environment. Providing opportunities and activities to all and reinforcing the feeling of belonging together are seen as key targets in this development. Dialog with the community in a form of active consultation during the design process offers valuable local information and enables successful design development.

Coexistence of business, leisure, community and residential activities in close proximity promotes social interaction and provides presence in the neighborhood day and night, making it safer.

Different typologies of housing make the area available for different age groups and family types, and a variety of ownership forms and rental opportunities of properties and vehicles provide opportunities for residents with different economic means.

The courtyards and the streets can be developed to become scenes for vibrant urban interaction, when they provide a variety of urban services and are attractive and safe for pedestrian traffic. Particularly the spaces between the outside and the inside, the public and the private, are seen as valuable interface for social activities.

The local identity is made of the unique qualities of each individual community. This can be potentially reinforced by reusing the existing building structures and materials in the new developments, or by reusing some other local elements, which reflect the history of the area.

Social interaction on scale of an individual building is promoted by designing for flexibility for different organizational concepts and for a variety of socializing needs. Pleasant indoor environment for social activities is enabled by an abundance of natural light, greenery and fresh air.
